Properly stored sesbania seeds can maintain viability for 3-5 years or even longer, thanks to their hard seed coat that provides natural protection against moisture uptake and insect damage. The key factors for long-term storage are low moisture content (below 10%) and protection from extreme temperatures.
Ideal storage conditions include a cool, dry environment (15-25°C, relative humidity below 60%) in airtight containers or sealed polyethylene-lined bags. Adding silica gel desiccant packets provides extra moisture protection. Seeds stored under these conditions typically retain 80%+ germination for at least 3 years.
Before storing, ensure seeds are properly cleaned and free of debris, broken seeds, and insect-damaged seeds. A fumigation treatment with aluminum phosphide (following local regulations) provides protection against storage insects like bruchid beetles. We supply seeds processed for long-term storage upon request.
