Sesbania is an annual legume belonging to the family of Fabaceae. It comes in 2 varieties — Sesbania Sesban and Sesbania Grandiflora. Both have similar characteristics with minor differences. Sesbania is widely cultivated across Pakistan, India, and tropical regions for its exceptional nitrogen-fixing properties, making it the ideal cover crop and green manure for sustainable agriculture.

Sesbania fixes 80-120 kg of atmospheric nitrogen per hectare through root nodules (Rhizobium bacteria symbiosis). This natural process enriches soil fertility and replaces expensive chemical fertilizers, making it the most cost-effective soil improvement crop available.
Sesbania is widely used as an intercrop with rice, sugarcane, cotton, and other field crops. When ploughed back into the soil at 50 days, it adds massive amounts of organic matter and fixed nitrogen. Farmers across Southeast Asia, Africa, and Central America rely on Sesbania as their primary green manure crop to restore depleted soils naturally.
